Overall height: 32.5cm (12.7in)
Full length standing and looking right portrait of Edward VII in informal highland dress by the Royal photographers W. & D. Downey, Ebury Street, London, (active 1855-1940).
Signed and dated ‘Edward R / 1904’ on the mount. Contained in an easel backed velvet lined, triptych-type morroco frame.
Established in Newcastle before opening a London studio in 1872, Downey numbered among Queen Victoria's favourite photographers, the firm photographed at Balmoral and Frogmore throughout the late 1860s, particularly for the Prince of Wales. The founder’s son, William Edward Downey, acted as operator for most royal sittings of the Edwardian era.
