Watercolour heightened with body colour. George V reads the King's Speech, outlining the government's legislative agenda, to assembled members in the House of Lords.

Charles Thomas Howard (1865-1942) was a Lincolnshire born, London-based postcard illustrator. His worked covered a wide range of subjects. He specialised in ceremonial subjects. He is perhaps best known for a series of postcards for London Zoo. He exhibited at the Royal Academy.

George V delivered his final King's Speech in 1935. Edward VIII opened Parliament on 3 November 1936 and George VI's first state opening speech was in October 1937.
