Silver. Of rectangular form, a matchbox holder, engraved with crowned crossed axes and title ‘107 / Pioneers’, and inscribed verso ‘The Officers / From / Lt F.H.F Hornor / at joining / 18-V-11’. Maker’s mark of Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Co. Ltd, 112 Reghent Street, London. Hallmarked London 1911-12.

Major Francis Harold Fardell Hornor MC (1888-1958).

107th Pioneers traced their origins to 1788 and won a string of battle honours as combat engineers. During the First World War they served with distinction at the Battle of Neuve Chapelle on the Western Front and later in Mesopotamia.
