Silver. Of tapering cylindrical form, the body engraved with the crowned regimental number encircled by battle honours ‘Dominica / Martinique / Guadaloupe / Ashantee’ and ‘West India Regt’ title to one side and with a GJM monogram and presentation inscription to the other: ‘Presented by / Captn G.J. Marshall / On promotion / 27th Novr 1875’. Maker’s mark of William Hutton & Sons. Hallmarked London 1876.

Captain George James Marshall was commissioned Ensign in the 1st West India Regiment in 1860 and served in West Africa and and West Indies. In February and March 1867 he took part in an expedition to British Honduras which went in search of the Commissioner E.L. Rhys who went missing during an ambush by the Icaiche Maya. Rhys was never found. Captain Marshall sold out in 1877.
