Silver. Circular form, engraved the naval crown and date 1st June 1794 (celebrating the regiment’s service as marines at Admiral Howe’s victory), and the eight pointed star centred on lion stating guardant encircled by the Garter motto ‘Honi Soit Qui Mal Y Pense’ (May he be shamed who thinks badly of it) over the regimental motto ‘FIRM’ and tittle scroll, the whole encircled by a laurel leaf border and raised on a circular stepped base. Formed at Worcester in September 1914, 2/8th Worcesters came under the orders of the 2nd Gloucester & Worcester Brigade, 2nd South Midland Division. The battalion landed in France on 24 May 1916 as part of 183rd Brigade, 61st (2nd South Midland) Division. On 19 July 1916 the 61st Division fought the Battle of Fromelles, designed as a feint attack during the Somme Offensive. The uphill attack against well prepared German positions was a disaster. In February 1918, 2/8th Worcesters transferred to 182nd Brigade, 61st (2nd South Midland) Division.
