Silver inlaid with gold. Presentation salver of circular dish form centrally engraved with with reed band and gilded crowned GMR cypher of King George V and Queen Mary to the centre. Maker’s mark of HS Benzie, Cowes, IOW. Hallmarked London 1930. Engraved verso 'Presented to Vice Admiral Sir Henry Buller / From / T.M’s King George and Queen Mary 11th August 1930’
Admiral Sir Henry Tritton Buller, GCVO, CB (1873-1960) entered the Royal Navy in 1887. In 1916 he commanded HMS Highflyer in the pusuit and sinking of the German auxiliary cruiser Wilhelm Der Grosse for which he received the CB and prize money. In 1921 he was appointed in command of His Majesty’s yachts. He was knighted in 1925 and in 1932 was appointed Groom-in-Waiting to the King. He was reappointed under Edward VIII, George VI and Elizabeth II.
