Gilt Brass. Of circular form. The top comprising a relief profile portrait bust in uniform and wearing the Garter Star, within the embossed inscription ‘Marquis Wellington’, all  within a Greek key border. The sides decorated with panels containing a recumbent British lion and trophies of arms, together with the stern of a ship, naval crown and other devices (found on the earlier Nelson snuff box of 1806 probably by the same manufacturer). The reverse, also within decorative border, embossed, between two oak branches with the names of Wellington’s Peninsula victories - Vimiera (1808), Talavera (1809), Roliea (1808), Busaco (1810), Fuentes d’Onoro (1811) Almeida (1811), Cuidad Rodrigo (1812), Badajoz (1812 ) and Madrid (1812). Wellington was created Marquess of Wellington on 3 October 1812 and a Knight of the Garter on 21 June 1813.
