Equestrian silver figure of an officer of the 10th Royal Hussars (Prince of Wales's Own) by Sebastian Garrard. Hallmarked London 1917-18. Silver figure 31.5cm (12.5in) high. On stepped ebonised wood plinth.. The base applied with a silver presentation plaque inscribed 'Captain The Earl of Airlie M.C. / from / The Officers 10th (P.W.O.) Royal Hussars / in the occasion of his Marriage / July 17th 1917’.

Colonel David Lyulph Gore Wolseley Ogilvy, 12th Earl of Airlie, K.T., K.C.V.O., M.C. (1893-1968) was the eldest son of the 11th Earl who was killed in action at the Battle of Diamond Hill in 1899. He inherited his father's titles in 1900 and was one of the trainbearers to Queen Mary at her coronation in 1911. He became a Representative Peer for Scotland in 1922, and was appointed a Lord-in-Waiting in Stanley Baldwin's government in 1926. In 1937, he was appointed Lord Chamberlain to Queen Elizabeth, consort of George VI.
