Silver. Finely modelled and chased standing figure of a Napoleonic period officer of the 15th Light Dragoons in the hussar style uniform, introduced by general order in 1796, comprising bagged and plumed busby with caplines, tunic, fur lined pelisse with ball buttons and multiple rows of frogging, Austrian knot sleeve decoration, shoulder belt and pouch; pantaloons and hessian boots, sword and sabretache with the LD (light dragoon) cypher. Height of figure excluding base 20.5cm. London Assay marks without date letter. Raised on an ebonised stepped base. Figure excluding base: 20.5cm in height.
The present figures was probably made to the order of Carrington & Co of 130 Regent Street, London, regimental silvermiths to the 15th/19th Hussars. It was one of three figures representing the uniforms worn by the regiment from 1759 to the 20th century. The figures were designed to adorn the base of officers’ regimental wedding present which took the form of a column lamp further decorated with silver battle honour scrolls of the 15th King’s Hussars.
