Oil on canvas. English School. Oval portrait of an officer’s chestnut charger of the 16th Lancers equipped with the full dress horse furniture for the period 1837-1846, comprising hunting pattern saddle and leopard skin over regulation blue shabraque with gold lace border embroidered with the Queen Victoria crown over crossed lances, ‘XVI' designation and battle honours at the hindquarters, crowned VR cypher embroidered forequarters covering the wallets, complete with officers’ pattern bridle fitted with regimental ear and bit bosses, throat plume and head chain; set in an open landscape. Contained in a gilt oval frame with moulded decoration.
