Coromandel compartmentalised correspondence box, the hinged lid bearing silver and gilt 1881-1902 officer’s Lancer cap plate comprising the Royal arms and battle honours from Talavera to Aliwal, the sides applied with gilt lion mask ear bosses adapted as ring handles; the interior lined with scarlet watered silk. The removable stamp box bearing the maker’s label of Halstaff & Hannaford (fl.1842-1908), manufacturers of dressing cases, jewellery and writing boxes, of 228 Regent Street, London. The lock stamped ‘Batson’, for J. Batson & Sons, of 42 & 43 Brewer Street, Golden Square, London.
