Silver. Of rectangular form, the hinged lid engraved with the QOH cypher surmounted by the King’s crown of Edward VII, over the regimental number in the line. Gilt interior. Maker’s mark of Joseph Braham Ltd, manufacturing goldsmiths & silversmiths, Lexington Street, London. Hallmarked London 1901.
The present fine quality unnamed box brings to mind Lieutenant Winston Churchill’s service in the 4th Queen’s Own Hussars from January 1895 to May 1899. Churchill was Regimental Colonel of from 1941 to 1958 when it was amalgamated with the 8th Hussars to form the Queen’s Own Royal Irish Hussars.
