Silver. Banner form incised ‘Claret’ surmounted by the number 9 and regimental title scroll entwined through a wreath above, the whole under the Queen Victoria crown. Maker’s mark of Charles Stuart Harris. Hallmarked London 1890.

The 9th Bengal Native Infantry was formed in 1861 from the 63rd BNI which remained loyal during the Indian Mutiny. In 1894 it was retitled to become 9th (Gurkha Rifle) Regiment.
