A bronze standing figure, after the Italian sculptor Adriano Cecioni (1836-1886). Napoleon standing with his famous bicorn hat in his right hand, his left resting upon his sword. Modelled in the uniform of a colonel of the Imperial Guard Foot Grenadiers, he wears the Legion of Honour and Order of the Iron Crown. The present bronze is reminiscent of Jacques-Louis David’s 1812 portrait of ‘Napoléon dans son cabinet de travail aux Tuileries’, although that work references his civil role as the creator of the Code Napoleon, rather than the martial achievements emphasised here by top field boots and sword.
