Black and white equestrian portrait photograph of Princess Elizabeth (later Elizabeth II, 1926-1922) in the uniform of Colonel of the Grenadier Guards riding Tommy. Signed and dated in ‘Elizabeth / 1947’ in the mount. Studio stamp of photographers W.W. Rouch & Co., 161 Strand, London, verso. Contained in a bespoke easel backed gilt tooled navy blue leather frame together with a snapshot of ‘Tommy’ off duty. Glazed.
Princess Elizabeth was appointed Colonel of the Grenadier Guards on her sixteenth birthday, 21 April 1942, and became Colonel-in-Chief on her accession to the throne in 1952. In 1947 she rode with George VI and the Duke of Gloucester at the Trooping of the Colour.
