Silver plate. Modelled as a labrador guide dog standing four square on an ebonised pedestal applied to the front with presentation plaque inscribed ‘Presented to / The ship’s company of / HMS Charybdis / in gratitude from / The Guide Dogs For The / Blind Association.’ Height of figure: 10cm (4in).
HMS Charybdis (F75) was a Leander-class frigate, launched in 1968. She was successively guard ship of Gibraltar, part of the fishery Protection squadron the Second Cod War (1972-73), and part of the 6th Frigate Squadron at the 1977 Queen’s Silver Jubilee Fleet Review. She was upgraded around the time of the Falklands War with Exocet and Sea Wolf missiles. In 1985 she deployed to the Gulf as part of the Armilla Patrol protecting ships transiting the Straits of Hormuz.
