A pair of Sevres biscuit porcelain portrait reliefs, mounted to a board with period inscription Marie Antoinette (1755-1793), ‘Queen of Louis 16th’, and Louis XVI (1754-1793), ‘Louis 16th’. Contained in a period ebonised and gilt glazed frame, inscribed verso in period script ‘Bought in the sale of the Julia Boyd / Collection. Newcastle October 1898’.
Julia Boyd (1846-1892) was a well travelled collector noted for her ethnological and ornithological interests.
