Polychromed glazed pottery. A pair of Staffordshire pottery knobs painted with Queen Victoria crowns, possibly made to celebrate Queen Victoria’s golden jubilee. Attributed to Bullers of Tipton.

In 1842 Captain John Wentworth Buller RN (1792-1852), a scion of an old Devon family, and his brother-in-law John Divett established the Folly Pottery, in Bovey Tracy, Devon. Using Cornish clay and Staffordshire coal, they produced a wide range of wares including bed knobs and door furniture. As the business grew, it suffered increasingly from the cost of transporting coal, and so the company moved to the Staffordshire Potteries. They afterwards became a major international supplier porcelain electrical insulators.
