The Order of the Thistle Star in white and yellow gold set with diamonds in the radiating star and cross of St. Andrew, the yellow gold centre set with green enamel and amethyst, within the the motto ‘Nemo Me Impune Lacessit' (no one attacks me with impunity) in yellow gold and green enamel. Inscribed verso ‘From me to you. 30 April 1919’.

Colonel John Cobbold served in the Scots Guards in France and Flanders and was wounded in 1917. He married Lady Blanche Cavendish, daughter of the 9th Duke of Devonshire, in 1919 and in the same year joined his family’s brewing business in Suffolk. He founded Ipswich Town football club in 1938, and was killed by the V1 rocket that fell on the Guards Chapel in 1944.
